#Twitterlockout has been trending this week, namely because many users have lost thousands of followers identified as fake (and largely-Russian) bots, targeted by Twitter in a bid to cull ‘non-human’ accounts seen to be helping spread far-right and populist political opinions.
Newsquest has fallen foul of freelance journalists and photographers across the country, not to mention the NUJ’s #useitpayforit campaign, as the second-largest local and regional publisher in the country offers cash rewards to its papers that have published the most amount of free copy and images each month. That means not paying writers and camera pros, which is not ideal.
