This week the United States Federal Communications Commission (children of the 1980s will know the name from the cult 1991 Christian Slater teen flick ‘Pump Up The Volume’) voted in favour of dismantling the so-called net neutrality laws, which critics fear will hand the web over to major corporations such as cable and broadband providers. It is believed that small start-ups such as Skype have been able to blossom online because of regulations preventing internet service providers from blocking or slowing down specific websites, now those regulations are gone the impact could potentially be felt worldwide.
